What is a TIP card?
A Temporary Instructional Permit (TIP) is issued by the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles and allows you to begin the licensing process. You cannot take the written knowledge test without a TIP card, so get yours before class when possible.

- What class do I need if I am 15, 16, or 17?
- You need the 38-hour teen driver education course.
- What class do I need if I am 18 or older?
- You need the 14-hour adult pre-licensing course.
- How much is the teen course?
- $550 total. A $275 deposit is required to register.
- How much is the adult course?
- $520 total. A $260 deposit is required to register.
- Can I register online?
- Yes. You can select a class, submit your information, and upload your documents online. Deposits are paid by calling the office or stopping by.
- Can I pay the entire amount upfront?
- Yes. You can pay the required deposit or the full course amount.
- What is included in the teen course?
- 30 hours of classroom instruction and 8 hours of behind-the-wheel training.
- What is included in the adult course?
- 6 hours of classroom instruction and 8 hours of behind-the-wheel training, completed over four 2-hour sessions.
- How do I schedule my behind-the-wheel driving hours?
- Call the office at 504-821-5334 and we will schedule your driving times around your availability.
- Do you offer CDL training?
- No. New Orleans Safe Driving School does not provide CDL training.
